10 Angelina Jolie Movies To Check Out On Netflix
As we await her MCU debut in Eternals, it's a good time to bone up on Angelina Jolie's eclectic back catalog of acting, directing, and voice roles.
As one of the biggest movie stars in the world, Angelina Jolie has had an incredible career. With the upcoming release of Marvel's Eternals, where Jolie will star as the iconic Thena, it's worth priming oneself for her MCU debut by looking back on her filmography, both films that she's starred in and films that she's directed, specifically on Netflix.
Netflix is available in a number of different countries and because of this, it's worth noting which of her films are available in which country. And of course, as Netflix lineups change all the time, these movies are only guaranteed to be available for Netflix in their given country as of the time of this writing.
10Girl, Interrupted (Germany)
The film that has earned Jolie her only Academy Award (for Best Supporting Actress), Girl, Interrupted is a psychological drama based on Susanna Kaysen's memoir of the same name. This 1999 film stars Winona Ryder as Susanna during her time in a 1960s psychiatric hospital.
Jolie's portrayal of Lisa, a charismatic and manipulative sociopath who had been in the hospital since she was a child, also earned Jolie worldwide acclaim, her third Golden Globe in a row, and her second SAG award.
9Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (Germany & Japan)
The film that kicked off Jolie's action star status, 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is an action-adventure movie inspired by the popular video game franchise and its iconic protagonist. Jolie did weapons training and kickboxing to help prepare herself for the role and did many of her own stunts, one of which led to an injury.
Tomb Raider not only had Jolie's father, Jon Voight, on the cast but also a young Daniel Craig, a few years before becoming an action star in his own right when he took over as James Bond starting with 2006's Casino Royale.
8Lara Croft: Tomb Raider — The Cradle Of Life (Japan)
Jolie returns as Lara Croft in the 2003 sequel subtitled The Cradle of Life. This time, Jolie's Lara teams up with Gerard Butler's Terry Sheridan to find Pandora's Box.
With the threat of a deadly plague, the two travel all over the world to recover items, fight bad guys, and make subtle nods to the video game franchise. This was the last time Jolie played the role that cemented her as an action movie star, and it would be the last Tomb Raider film until the franchise was rebooted in 2018 with Alicia Vikander taking over as the spelunker.
